We are demonstrating a non-traditional way to ACT NOW within current school budgets.

We are partnering with Todd Beamer High School, Federal Way in a community – school collaboration to implement a Trauma Responsive Care Coordination Program. The intent is to assess the challenges of students who are most at risk of dropping out, or experiencing a lack of educational success, and effectively address those concerns in order to lend towards a future of both school and long-term life success. Our trained mental health specialists are working with school teachers, counselors, and administrators in supporting and addressing the challenges they are facing with their students most at risk of dropping out and partnering with the assets in the community to holisticly mitigate the concerns. In the future we also intend to extend the program to middle and elementary schools that feed into Todd Beamer in order to identify and address social, emotional, and behavioral deficits proactively and as early as possible for developing people and students.

Here are ways your donation will serve:
  • $2,000 will provide individualized counseling to help an at-risk student overcome his/her specific obstacles to graduation during the coming school year.
  • $225 will provide 1 month of individualized counseling to help an at-risk student identify her/his specific risk factors that threaten graduation during the coming school year.
  • $100 will fund 1 hour of specialized training for staff members on social-emotional learning skills to strengthen their ability to identify and respond to the key risk factors most crucial to academic success.
  • $50 will provide 1 hour of consultant coaching  and administrative support for counselors that can double the amount of time they have  available for their most vulnerable students.

We are Called to Help Resolve
the Children’s Mental Health Crisis

The latest statistics for Washington and King County report that 20% of our youth have undiagnosed mental health disorders, that thousands do not graduate on time, and that far too many end up dropping out of school without the education and skills to support themselves. It is one of the most critical challenges our society is facing, and the impact it can have on the future of our communities is unacceptable.

With more students at a younger age expressing anxiety and depression, the traditional role of a counselor is changing.
“Our children are taking their lives at record rates in this state and this country,” Seattle Superintendent of Public Instruction Chris Reykdal said. Reykdal says traditional counselors have been focused on academics, but now the need has expanded to social and emotional learning.
