WRAPAROUND - CARE COORDINATION MODEL
The Wraparound - Care Coordination model utilizes a design and specific practices that proactively assess the needs of students and families for barriers that are impacting their academic, behavior, and social & emotional well-being. Factors which may be the result of elevated anxiety (e.g. complex trauma) may be attributed to examples of the following:
The intent is to provide wraparound supports in a school environment; school is where many of the natural and added supports for students and children are located in both time spent, and number of supportive adults. We want to mitigate the impacts of Risk Factors and then provide supports (i.e. Protective Factors) in those areas to allow for positive growth and gains as a whole child and student. This model is an update to a longitudinal research study implemented and ongoing in four Seattle Public Middle Schools that began in the year 2006 with very positive results (e.g. increased attendance, graduation rates, rate of passing state standardized tests). The previous longitudinal study in Seattle is currently ongoing and named - Kids In The Middle.
The trainings are in evidence-based practices for support staff (i.e. counselors, school social workers, behavior/SEL support positions etc..) grounded in Motivational Interviewing and Person-Centered Approaches. Additionally, attendees will receive training in exploratory assessments and on tools that can be utilized at school sites, and in building supportive partnerships with students and families.
